Softeq Makes Archeological Treasures of Petroglyph National Monument More Accessible

Petroglyph National Monument

November 20, 2014

Petroglyph National Monument, a renowned archeological and landscape sight in New Mexico, and Softeq Development, a seasoned provider of embedded software development services, announce the completion of the DURATEQ® assistive technology system installation at the Petroglyph’s facilities.

The deployment of the DURATEQ® assistive solution takes accessibility of the monument to a new level. A tactile exhibit of petroglyphs allowing all visitors experience the feel of a petroglyph available at Las Imágenes Visitor Center is now complemented with comprehensive audio descriptions for visually impaired guests provided outdoors, through user-friendly wearable devices at both the Macaw Trail and the Mesa Point Trail.

As guests follow the point-to-point trails in the picturesque landscapes of Boca Negra Canyon and Rinconada Canyon, GPS signals trigger the content for each stop. The Softeq’s team ensured the assistive device usage remains intuitive even at the stops where their close location did not allow accurate individual triggering. This challenge was resolved through audio menus to allow selection of content under a main introduction triggered when the user arrives at the stop.

The final hardware installation package included DURATEQ® handhelds with GPS modules and ALiCE software inside, headphones, break-away neck lanyards, and a multi-unit charging dock.
