Problem

The client approached Softeq with an initial idea of creating a live chat messenger for mobile devices. Softeq’s Mobile App Development team came up with a number of technical and design ideas for the app to stand out from the competition, extending the concept into actionable steps.

The client aimed to launch a messaging app that would provide users a fun way to keep in touch and make new friends through a host of special features, combining social and best messaging capabilities.

Solution

Softeq developed an iOS messenger that among others provides such unique features as Random Chat, Message Translation, and Custom Stream from social networks of user’s choice.

  • Sharing photos, videos, contacts through chat
  • Creating group chats
  • Chatting with random users all over the world
  • Instantly translating messages from/to unknown foreign languages (Google Translate service integration)
  • Creating a custom news stream from different social networks the user is subscribed to (Integration with social media platforms)

The app works with text, photos, video, and audio and employs push/local notifications based on a custom logic. Integrated with Flurry Analytics, the app will provide insight into the users’ behavior and the solution’s performance.

Security

The messenger utilizes HTTPS, a secure communication protocol to protect the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data. The XMPP server leveraged to enable optimized real-time communication not only complies with such security standards as TLS, SASL, SSL, but also provides user data separation on the server level.

Methodology

The team employed a combination of Scrum and Kanban project management methodologies — Scrumban — to adapt to the changing requirements.

Results

The team continues working on the iOS app enhancement, which will affect the messenger’s look and feel and usage convenience. The customer also plans to test the waters of monetization by incorporating in-app advertising.
