NVIDIA corporation, the visual computing pioneering company for worldwide technology, the GPU (graphics processing units) leading provider, manufactures a comprehensive range of products within numerous platforms, high-load technologies and processors, combining the development process with an in-depth research, as well as partner and investment networking.

In 2012 NVIDIA hosted GPU Technology Conference, a flagship world-class educational, discovery and networking event.

The conference was organized to provide insight into the latest GPU technology advancements that helped scientists, developers, graphic artists, designers, researchers, engineers, and IT managers tackle their day-to-day computational and graphics challenges. The event comprised numerous technical sessions, tutorials, panel discussions, and moderated roundtables led by thought leaders from a wide range of fields. The amount of information that had to be processed by the conference attendees could be overwhelming. Therefore providing an extra means enabling attendees to conveniently source up-to-the-minute event information was indispensable.

    Blizzard Entertainment: Blizzcon

The #1-selling computer games maker Blizzard Entertainment does know a thing or two about organizing special events. In 2011 its iconic Blizzcon gathered together the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo players for a chance to meet the creators of their favorite Blizzard Entertainment games, participate in a variety of tournaments, and connect with fellow Blizzard gamers from around the world.

Focused on delivering exciting and entertaining gaming experience, Blizzard Entertainment wanted the mobile application help convey that spirit along with extending real-time information support.

Drawing on its previous successful experience of relying on Softeq’s software engineering services for innovative projects, NVIDIA engaged the company to develop a mobile app — Event and Session Manager. Available in iOS and Android versions, it went live during Blizzcon, where NVIDIA participated as Blizzard Entertainment’s technology partner. Impressed with the results, NVIDIA requested a similar application to support attendees of the GPU Conference it hosted.

The Event and Session Manager communicates with the web service via XML feeds, enabling up-to-the-minute information updates on the key event activities. The application supports the following features:

    • Schedule — daily activities plan for the entire event duration: opening ceremony/keynote, hands-on labs, tutorials, talks, developers panels, special events, exhibits, tournaments and actions with filtering capabilities
    • My Schedule — possibility to log in to enroll in and plan sessions, join participant network, and view session replays
    • Floor Map — interactive event navigation tool with possibility to highlight locations of interest
    • Tournaments — possibility to view results of the gaming tournaments
    • Videos Replay — possibility to view conference videos of key event highlights
    • News — possibility to stream real-time news and alerts

The iOS and Android versions of the Event Schedule and Session Manager app for the 2012 GPU Technology Conference and Blizzcon 2011 were launched several weeks before the expos, available for download on Google Play and App Store. Both the events went off with much success, attracting over 10,000 visitors, with more than 5,000 installs witnessed on Google Play alone.
