Problem

HP intended to promote the iPAQ platform among the developer community by providing high quality knowledge resources, facilities, and timely support over the entire product lifecycle, thus stimulating new member sign-up, as well as empowering its existing associates. A special web portal was to be created to address the needs of device documentation, SDKs, help, tech support, monthly newsletter updates, and equipment utilization management (including the loan and purchase of iPAQ devices).

With top-flight technology talent on board and well-defined firmware and software development practices, Softeq had the insight and the capabilities to take on the project. It wasn’t the first time that Softeq had demonstrated its efficiency to HP by successfully carrying out a number of special, challenging tasks to the customer’s satisfaction.

Solution

With three levels of membership options including Premier, Developer, and Associate subscriptions, the portal-driven iPAQ Developer Program provided valuable services for the developer community, boasting both technical and partnering tools. Some of the key capabilities of the solution suite included:

  • Sending welcome kits to new members
  • Curation of the online knowledge base, writing technical docs, dynamic FAQs, developer forums
  • Design, creation, and documentation of custom SDKs
  • Handling user signups with credit card processing capability for annual memberships
  • Managing the equipment loaner and purchase program providing device inventory, shipping, and agreements needed to develop, validate and demonstrate devices or applications for the iPAQ Pocket PC
  • Providing ticket-based 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level managed technical support to developers

The partnering services were augmented with a variety of online co-marketing opportunities and equipment programs to enable developers to more effectively raise visibility of their products and solutions. The Premier members could participate in the HP Certified logo program allowing them to differentiate their product by displaying the HP Certified logo on their product, its packaging and website.

Results

The iPAQ Developer Program succeeded by attracting thousands of new developers and boosting overall development productivity by crafting a highly collaborative environment for all the participants.

Packed with tools, information, resources and the support required to quickly and efficiently produce, promote, and bring to the market value-added applications for the iPAQ Pocket PC, the iDP service gained recognition as being on the forefront of mobile solution developer support.

Softeq served as the key system integrator ensuring service sustainability for the entire duration of the program.
