A leading provider of business software solutions for windows treatment industry.

Problem

Softeq had proved its software engineering strengths in a previous engagement with the customer by providing functional development and bug-fixing services for the company’s software products. Satisfied with the team’s subject-matter expertise, responsiveness, and the service quality, the customer hired Softeq to create a frontend for its ERP-style product.

The client sells ERP-style software designed to support window treatment retailers and providers of related services in their day-to-day business activities. The software facilitates full sales cycle — from measurement-based price calculation through to quoting, payment, and accounting. The solution called for a functionally rich web interface enabling intuitive and rapid information tracking and processing.

The product users were expected to be able to access the solution’s functionality and vendor’s business and technical information using individual accounts based on multiple subscription options.

Softeq was to develop a front-end that is tightly bundled with several backend applications to deliver improved business results along with more rewarding user experience. The solution was also to allow integration with users’ CRM software making system’s functionality accessible right from within the CRM solution.

Solution

The solution has a full set of features that guide the user through the sales, order management, and accounting processes, among others:

  • Quotes calculation based on windows measurements
  • Converting a quote to an order
  • Order processing — Entering customer info, selecting products, confirming pricing and generating and/or canceling an order
  • PO generation — Creating a Purchase Order that can be submitted to retailer’s vendor
  • Order Monitoring — Monitoring the status of an order for windows treatment supplies
  • Invoicing — Generating an invoice that will be sent to retailer’s client
  • Payment — Payment execution via Authorize.Net
  • Accounting — integration with business accounting software
  • Inventory management — Accessing the Master Product List with product categories, lines, pricing options, validations, and pictures

The solution is also integrated with an e-mail and a reporting engine.

Challenge

While the front-end implementation was kicked off, the Client was still finalizing the requirements for the services functionality, which affected the project scope and deadline assessment. Softeq’s team put in extra effort to handle customer’s change requests and modify the solution accordingly.

The team was also to deal with integration challenges while linking the solution to the 3rd party accounting software to provide process continuity for the user.

Methodology

The team used a combination of Waterfall and Agile methods with more defined and well-planned work chunks implemented sequentially, and those still under finalization being evaluated, scheduled, developed, and fine-tuned on-the-fly.

Results

The frontend developed by Softeq to support the complex line-of-business software product of the customer has helped transform the traditional ERP-style system into a full-scale SaaS solution.

The implemented solution is set to become an efficient tool that provides streamlined, accurate and detailed information about all aspects of the sales, order management, and accounting processes, among others, in the windows treatment sector.

With on-the-go access to the critical data, faster turnaround time, and improved user experience, the solution is expected to help retailers increase sales, boost productivity, while enabling more significant cost and time savings.
