A UK-based technology company providing hearing solutions and assistive listening devices (ALDs) designed for easy use with telecoil-equipped hearing aids, cochlear implants, or binaural headphones.


The client had a development partner based in India and a local UI/UX consulting firm who had been working on their product — a high quality recording application for Android and iOS devices enabling easy-to-use audio recording, editing and analysis. Unfortunately, the Indian developer faced a challenge that they couldn’t overcome. The client urgently needed external help to resolve the issue and release their product.

The major issue Softeq dealt with in the first place was insufficient suppression of high-frequency and low-frequency noises which significantly impacted the quality of the recorded audio. Softeq’s team suggested implementing custom regulators to compensate noise distortions.

During the development and implementation of the new feature, our testing team found a number of issues in the code. Inspired by Softeq’s transparent and proactive approach and tech proficiency demonstrated by the development team, the client decided to utilize Softeq’s QA specialists to perform a comprehensive pre-release QA audit of the app.

Softeq’s Software Quality Assurance team had a few days to perform all-round testing of the solution, and at the end of the day they reported over four dozen defects found. In order to test the functionality, stability and usability of the app, the following types of testing executed:

  • Functional Testing — exploratory manual testing of the implemented functionality and interaction with the audio components of the smartphone in order to ensure the OS would not crash;
  • Stress Testing — the solutions stability was tested to uncover the boundary condition when the user tried to create a recording of a maximum length;
  • Documentation Testing — the team uncovered inconsistencies in the User Manual;
  • Usability Testing.

During Usability Testing the team found the app’s UI did not correspond to Dominant Design requirements and the common design paradigm. The team suggested fixes that would ensure correspondence to the guidelines.


The project was successfully delivered by the deadline allowing enough time for bug fixing and successful commercial launch of the application on Google Play. The Exploratory Testing Report provided to the client contained both defects found, step-by-step reproduction instructions and a list of suggested improvements.
