Problem

Atlas Copco had a very limited previous experience with mobile application development, and needed help going beyond traditional software development service.

During the technology partner selection process, which extended over several months, Atlas Copco attracted over a dozen software service companies. The key decision criteria were not only extensive expertise in the app development for iOS and Android devices, but most importantly a mature vision on the application architecture and readiness to deliver a full cycle service starting from the very basics — detailed requirements to the future app, both business and technical.

Softeq won the contract by demonstrating deep knowledge of the technology domain and a well-thought-through approach to the application development.

Solution

The major project goal was to create a convenient to use application to view the HTML5-coded electronic version of the BUILD Magazine. Softeq’s team focused on creating a smooth interface to provide excellent user experience to the readership.

Following the responsiveness principles, the content is optimized for excellent display on a range of iOS and Android devices.

Interactivity Features

Contact form — with direct interaction of the app with an SMTP server, the user can send enquiries about Atlas Copco’s products, request a quote or send comments about an article.

Embedded video — the user can playback video content directly within the application.

Methodology

Careful attention was paid to synchronizing opinions and vision on the project flow between the Softeq and Atlas Copco teams in order to mitigate all risks of misunderstanding or ambiguity, which is especially important for Fixed Price projects like this one.

The Softeq team provided the Client with total transparency and maintained intense communication via e-mail, individual and conference calls. The team updated the Client on a regular basis sending weekly reports on project status.

Results

Softeq met all project goals. The application was successfully submitted to Google Play and is now available for free download in 7 foreign languages — English, Russian, French, Swedish, Spanish, Chinese, and German together with one to several pre-uploaded issues of the BUILD magazine.
