The client’s business is development of technologies for wearable devices.


The client was after a trusted service provider with subject-matter experience in custom mobile applications with sensor communication capabilities. Softeq stood out as a seasoned team with a diverse portfolio of complex IoT sensor-enabled solutions. The customer was to participate in an upcoming industry event. This fact put extra pressure on the project deadline.

The client was seeking to reinvent traditional golf playing with a cutting-edge technology and digitalize golfers’ habitual activities. This would help facilitate better game performance: hit more accurate shots, make informed decisions on the game strategy, etc. Softeq was to build an iOS app that was supposed to integrate with the existing tech environment.


The solution leverages iPhone’s and Apple Watch’s capabilities, smart sensors, and advanced software. They enable golfers to collect and store various performance data, provide comprehensive stats, improve the techniques, and add more fun to the game.

System Composition:
  • Smart golf clubs with embedded custom sensors for shots detection and measuring multiple parameters of the swing (e.g. speed, spatial information, etc.) using Bluetooth Low Energy and Bluetooth Classic
  • iOS app for iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch that employs Augmented Reality algorithms to show real-time calculation of the distance from the ball to the hole
  • Web portal providing secure access to individual game/performance stats, with a possibility to export/import data
  • Integration with Apple Watch: once the user turns the iPhone video recording on, Apple Watch will show the camera view so that the user conveniently adjusts the iPhone for a better angle
  • Automatic connection to previously identified sensors and storage of individual user data with a reference to each sensor
  • Simultaneous communication with up to 32 sensors via UART protocol
  • Offline access to statistics stored on the mobile phone


It was important to the customer to be able to obtain accurate data from the sensors. That is why Softeq focused on ensuring smooth communication between different parts of the system. Having worked out a detailed integration roadmap, the team seamlessly incorporated third party data processing algorithms and ensured an uninterrupted flow of the measurement data.


Working in sprints, Softeq team employed the Agile project management methodology combined with Scrum elements.


The team met all the customer requirements to the solution’s functionality. Happy with the collaboration results, the client keeps on extending the system’s capabilities by harnessing Softeq’s software engineering facilities.
