Apple and the Video iPod

We've held up the Apple iPod as an example of divergence, rather than convergence. To refresh your memory, most companies in the consumer electronics industry try to cram more and more features into a product until it does nothing very well. That old adage “Jack of all trades, master of none” comes to mind. The Apple music iPod seemed to get that...a device that did one thing very well: play music.

That's why it is so disappointing to see Apple cramming photos, and now video, on the iPod. The screen is too small for that stuff. What could Apple do with a pure photo viewer? That's what they should have done...
