Assistive Technology

Softeq has been active in the Assistive Technology space for over five years, providing both custom hardware and custom software to the most well known and respected theme parks and museums in the world.

Assistive technology (AT) is technology used by individuals with disabilities in order to perform functions that might otherwise be difficult or impossible. At Softeq, we have focused our AT efforts on making entertainment and educational venues accessible and immersive to individuals that are visually and/or hearing impaired. This includes Audio Description, Assistive Listening, and Closed Captioning.

Our solution can provide multi-cultural accessibility as well, supporting an unlimited number of languages.

Durateq ATV

Our solution is based on our own Durateq rugged handheld. The DURATEQ ATV contains several features that make it ideal for deployment in facilities desiring greater accessibility to their content.

Rugged design withstands daily guest abuse in both inside and outside venues, yet small enough to carry all day
Audio amplifier supports Assistive Listening volume levels
IR receivers for seamlessly synchronizing content with exhibits and shows, using patented JAMSYNC technology
IR transmitter for enabling captioning content on external monitors
Large screen for display of closed captions
High-contrast buttons for the visually impaired, for triggering additional content or adjusting volume
Vibration alert notifies users of new content
Large 4GB storage capacity supports hundreds of hours of content in multiple formats and languages
FM Receiver capable of receiving FCC designated assistive listening frequencies
Extended battery life and multi-unit docking station

Combined with our ALICE software, the Durateq ATV has everything needed for a complete solution.

ALICE

Softeq's assistive software solution is named ALICE, which stands for the Assistive LIstening and Captioning Engine. With ALICE, the advanced features of the Durateq are combined to deliver an automatic and immersive experience for all guests.

While the unit is easily configured by a guest services representative, the user is locked out from virtually every function of the device, thus ensuring simplicity and security.

Captioning Studio

Captioning Studio is another Softeq software product that simplifies the generation of closed captioning scripts. The user interface appears in a WYSIWYG display format, making script editing quick and painless.

Immersive

Most importantly, the Durateq ATV is immersive. Our goal is to provide a guest with disabilities the same level of immersive experience as anybody else at the venue. For example, content is triggered automatically as you enter an exhibit or show area, with no need of pressing additional buttons or punching in number codes. And more importantly, the content is synchronized with the audio and video content in the venue for a true real-time experience.

Expandable

The Durateq ATV is an expandable system. Infrared trigger points can be located both indoors and outdoors, and additional emitters can be added at any time. For outdoor deployments, we offer a GPS module. With GPS, virtual regions allow content to be triggered within multiple and overlapping zones, and can be triggered on user direction.
